Nice to know
Because of his deafness Beethoven had to use booklets from 1818 onwards in order to communicate with the outside world. Visitors wrote down what they wanted to say, Beethoven usually answered in spoken. Now and then he used the booklets as musical sketch books or to take notes. All in all there are 139 booklets. The Beethoven-Haus owns two conversation booklets. The remaining 137 booklets are at the Berlin State Library, Prussian Cultural Heritage. Among the conserved booklets, the present one is the oldest.
