The association founded in 1889 is called "Verein Beethoven-Haus" (Beethoven-Haus Association). By royal decree, it was granted the rights of a legal entity on May 20, 1896. The association is a non-profit organization serving the public good, and due to its statutory promotion of science and research, art, culture, monument conservation and preservation, it is exempt from corporate and trade taxes with the exception of its economic business operation. The Beethoven-Haus Bonn association is seated in the city of Bonn and supervised by the Cologne district government.
