Nice to know

Beethoven makes further concessions during the publishers' negotiations concerning the Symphonies opp. 67 and 68, the Sonata op. 69 and the Mass op. 86. The publisher is obviously against publishing the mass because masses are not selling well at the time and he is worried he will make a loss.

Beethoven offers Härtel the mass for free to ensure its publication. He lowers the price by a further 100 florins to 600 florins and instead of the intended sonata adds two piano trios (op. 70).

He asks for payment to be made in two stages.
