Nice to know

Beethoven agrees to sit again for a painter "although I consider sitting to be a kind of penance". Nevertheless he adds, "O God, how plagued one is when one has such an awkward face as myself". According to the BGA the painter might have been Louis Letronne but was probably rather Blasius Höfel. Letronne's drawing, after which Höfel was to make an engraving in autumn 1814, was so unfortunate that Beethoven had to sit for Höfel once again.
