Bettina Brentano, Franz Brentano's half-sister was one of the most dazzling women of Romanticism. She temporarily was a friend of Goethe and married Romantic poet Achim von Arnim in March 1811. She was also a friend of Beethoven whom she met in Vienna. The composer often saw the young woman at Melchior von Birkenstock's house where Bettina stayed. After her departure from Vienna Beethoven sent her at least one letter. Despite her rejection, Beethoven continued sending her letters, however, this assumption might not be true. Bettina Brentano certainly had much imagination which often influenced her memories.(S.B.)
