Nice to know

Beethoven thanks his publisher Schlesinger for the latter's last letter and the edition of the Allgemeine Berliner Musikalische Zeitung he has sent. He also wishes to receive this in the future. He particularly praises Adolph Bernhard Marx' essays.

Beethoven offers his publisher the Quartets op. 130 and 132 for 80 ducats each. Schlesinger may publish the works in Germany, France and England. Beethoven asks for a prompt reply. In a postscript he enquires whether Prince Radziwill is staying in Berlin - he might have wanted to involve Radziwill, to whom he had dedicated op. 115 shortly before, in the negotiations concerning the dedication of the Ninth Symphony to the Prussian King. Radziwill was the governor-general of Posen and therefore a Prussian official.
