Nice to know
After Latvian sculptor Naoum Aronson had given the Beethoven-Haus a model for a Beethoven bust in the summer of 1905, he was asked to manufacture a bronze bust to be displayed in the garden of the Beethoven-Haus.
Regarding the erection of the monument and the design of its pedestal, the board of directors of the Beethoven-Haus once more contacted Aronson. As the sculptor had just designed a fountain in Bad Godesberg earlier this year, he was very familiar with all the questions concerning the presentation and display of a monument.
Aronson suggested different designs for the pedestal of his Beethoven bust. Obviously, an elaborate and costly design was first considered, however, one finally chose a rather plain form. The sculptor sent the gypsum model shown here to Bonn and the draft was accepted by the board of directors - apart from the inscription - and completed in granite.(S.B.)
