Nice to know
Since 1819 Hungarian-born violinist Joseph Böhm worked as a professor at the Conservatory of the "Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde" (Society of the Friends of Music) in Vienna. In 1821 he became a member of the Vienna court band. Böhm was one of the most well-known violin virtuosos of his time. He gained a reputation for his performances of Beethoven's later string quartets. Beethoven's string quartet in E flat major, op. 127, was met with great success only after Böhm played the 1st violin. On the occasion of a memorial concert held in May 1827 after Beethoven's death, Böhm performed the composer's violin concert.(S.B.)
