Nice to know
In a letter to his friend Bernard, Beethoven encloses a letter to Blöchlinger, the head of the school which Beethoven's nephew Karl attended. He asks him to deliver the letter and to possibly add a few lines to make it milder. Blöchlinger was Swiss and not really respected by Beethoven, which is why the composer gave him the nicknames "glacier" and "cold room".
Once again Beethoven complains about how bad Karl's mother is, how she influences her child, only telling him bad things about his uncle. As was often the case he thought he was being slandered and that the world was against him. Beethoven asks Bernard to give him any unpleasant information that might have been withheld up to then, "out with it, my heart is strong, stab it and hit me".
He asks him to deliver the letter to Blöchlinger as soon as possible and draws his attention to the tip enclosed. In a postscript Beethoven mentions that Aloys Weißenbach in Salzburg has offered to take in Karl.
