Brahms notes the beginning of the first movement of his second piano concert op. 83. The three-bar incipit on three systems differs in articulation from the autograph; the staccato directions are missing. Brahms played the concert in Koblenz on January 26th, 1883, one day after visiting Wegeler. Mathilde Wegeler (1847-1916) was the daughter of Julius Stephan and Julius Wegeler's younger sister. (FG)
