Beethoven answers Neate in London, saying that he is prepared to write three quartets for 100 guineas. He has sent Ries an Overture (op. 124) for the Philharmonic Society. As soon as he has received money for the new symphony he will also send it directly to London (Beethoven is selling op. 125. At the time he had, however, only partly sketched it).
Beethoven hopes to be able to come to England the following year if his health is better. (Beethoven had been thinking about a journey to London since 1817, as he had a large following in the Philharmonic Society. However, the trip never took place.)
