Beethoven-Haus Bonn, B 1279

Nice to know

Composer Anselm Hüttenbrenner from Graz came to Vienna in 1815 to become a student of Antonio Salieri. He soon made the acquaintance of Franz Schubert and became a close friend. In 1816, Hüttenbrenner met Ludwig van Beethoven, whom he admired very much, for the first time. In the following years he often got together with Beethoven at publisher Anton Steiner"s place.

When Beethoven fell sick shortly before his death, Hüttenbrenner, Anton Schindler and Franz Schubert visited him. Hüttenbrenner was with the composer in the hour of his death. Later, he wrote a detailed report about Beethoven"s demise which should become especially important for the composer"s admirers and the history of music. (S.B.)
