Nice to know
Beethoven"s employer, the elector Max Franz, was more interested in the palace at Poppelsdorf than his predecessor and stayed there many times. The court musicians - including the young Beethoven - were expected to provide musical entertainment on such occasions. As a viola player in the court orchestra and the deputy court organist, Beethoven would probably have played in the palace as well as in the chapel, built in 1746. (S.B.)
