Nice to know
Between 1811 and 1814 famous poet and playwright Ignaz Franz Castelli worked at the Vienna Court Theater. He knew Ludwig van Beethoven well as he had been a member of the composer's circle of friends for many years. Temporarily, Beethoven thought about using one of Castelli's librettos to compose an opera. However, he did not carry out his plan.
Castelli's memoirs, published in 1861/1862, contain a number of memories of Beethoven. The poet described him as "the personalised power" and often mentioned the composer's humour.(S.B.)
