Zusammenfassung
In 1809 Beethoven was given a regular annuity by Princes Kinsky and Lobkowitz and Archduke Rudolph. Prince Lobkowitz went bankrupt in 1813 due to his extravagant lifestyle, and further payments to the composer were no longer possible. Beethoven went to court and sued the Prince on 13 June 1813. In the first instance the Lower Austrian Landrecht (a kind of tribunal) awarded in his favour, but Lobkowitz lodged an appeal with the Court of Appeal. Following much discussion (for details see BGA 774, note 4) in which the Imperial jurisdiction was also involved, Beethoven finally won and on 19 April 1815 the Landrecht's original judgement took effect.
