Zusammenfassung
The Berlin publisher Schlesinger had visited Beethoven in Mödling in autumn 1819 to set up a business relationship. The composer now offers him the Scottish Songs (op. 108) and the Ten Varied Themes (op. 107). Both works had already been published in Great Britain by George Thomson in 1818 and 1819 respectively. Schlesinger did actually buy op. 108 and published the German first edition in 1822. The German first edition of op. 107 was published in Bonn in 1820 by Simrock, to whom Beethoven had also shortly before offered both works.
