Beethoven asks his publisher Anton Diabelli to return the manuscript of op. 111 which he had sent the day before. He had sent it by mistake instead of the corrected French edition, which he had received from Diabelli. Beethoven is prepared to exchange his manuscript for the French edition although he would like to keep the latter. As the composer was not happy with the Parisian original edition of the piano sonata because it contained so many mistakes, he supported Diabelli's improved and corrected edition.

Beethoven asks for proofs of the corrected first edition of op. 120 so that he can check them once again. He gladly accepts the offer of eight copies on good quality paper, and will give them to friends as presents (not without an ulterior motive).

Finally he says he will send him the metronome markings for both works - a promise which he did not keep.
