Dr. Kanka helped and advised Beethoven during his legal dispute with Prince Kinsky's heirs. Together with two other patrons Kinsky had signed Beethoven's annuity agreement in 1809, guaranteeing him a fixed annual sum. However, Kinsky did not keep up with his payments. In addition Kinsky's heirs refused to continue paying Kinsky's part of the annuity following the latter's death in 1812. Beethoven took the heirs to court, reaching a settlement in January 1815.

The composer thanks Kanka for his help. Despite the lawyer Dr. Wolf , whom Beethoven considered incompetent, the case has ended well: Beethoven has received his money, although it is less than he had hoped. Nevertheless he is happy with the outcome.
