Zusammenfassung
Ries's first child, daughter Fanny, born in May, is a healthy little girl. His father Franz Anton (1755-1846) is about to depart to the health resort Bad Bertrich, where Wegeler works as director. He operates a part of the Marienforst estate close to Godesberg but also has the unpleasant duty of collecting taxes from the farmers. With the help of some acquaintances Ries tries to find an employment as music professor for him in Bonn. Ries's brother Johann Baptist is causing trouble as he still lives with his parents at the age of 27 and has no interest in taking his life into his own hands. Ries will not meet Stephan von Breuning in Koblenz and regrets missing Breuning's report on Beethoven. Wegeler shall make sure that Breuning takes some music supplies to Vienna. This way, he wants to send Beethoven his second symphony op. 80 which he dedicated to the composer. Harriet Ries expresses her gratitude for the gift on the occasion of her daughter's birth. Joseph Ries has established himself as accountant in London. He is trying to introduce on the English market Tönnissteiner water from the fountain located between Bonn and Koblenz and in which Wegeler takes a share in. (FG)
