Zusammenfassung
Beethoven informs the head of the boarding school, Giannattasio del Rio, of his nephew's departure at the end of the month. He does not give any reason for this. Beethoven even rejects Giannattasio's offer to teach Karl privately for less money. The composer had been appointed Karl's guardian in 1816 (his dead brother's child). Already in February 1816 Beethoven had sent his nephew to Giannattasio del Rio's boarding school. Despite the fact that he says Giannattasio is an "excellent head", he would rather have Karl taught privately in the future.
