Zusammenfassung
Stephan von Breuning apologises to his friend Wegeler for his long silence. He writes about how lonely and unhappy he is in Vienna. He then tells him in detail about Beethoven, his only friend. Due to his decreasing hearing Beethoven has withdrawn a great deal and has changed. Stephan is concerned about this. Stephan has recently taken a 66-year-old cook into his employ. Beethoven is now eating with him every day.
