Zusammenfassung

Beethoven offers a copy of his Missa solemnis op. 123 for sale for 50 gold ducats and asks the legation in Vienna to present this offer to the court in Saxony-Weimar.

Around the new year 1822/23 Beethoven decided to offer subscription copies of his new mass before it was printed, and wrote to the representatives of several states in Vienna regarding this matter. However many legations declined, recommending Beethoven to contact the relevant rulers directly. At the same time Beethoven turned to influential friends and acquaintances who had close contacts with the courts and might be able to offer him patronage. Schindler's note is also to be seen in connection with this.
