Nice to know
Beethoven asks the writer Collin to be patient until after the academy; then he will gladly work with him and set his operatic material to music. However, he asks to be told should the decision have already been made to have Reichardt compose the opera.
After Beethoven had composed an overture for Collin's tragedy Coriolan in 1807, they worked on joint opera plans the next year. They discussed "Macbeth", also "Bradamante", although neither of the operas came to anything. The opera referred to in this letter is probably Collin's libretto for "Bradamante", which was in fact set to music by Reichardt. However it was not performed due to the turmoil caused by the war.
