Nice to know
Regular performances were only given in the large opera house in Dresden (shown here) up to 1760. Important German Baroque composers, such as Johann Adolf Hasse (1699 - 1783) were active here. In the second half of the eighteenth century, the theatre was no longer used for performances and only society events such as balls were held here. 1812 proved an exception as a concert was given here for Napoleon Bonaparte. Only from 1843 onwards were regular concerts given again in the Dresden opera house; in 1846 Richard Wagner conducted a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.(S.B.)
