Nice to know
Beethoven sends confirmation to his publishers Breitkopf & Härtel in Leipzig that he has given three works (op. 71, WoO 136 and WoO 137) to Kunz & Co. free-of-charge to be sent on to Breitkopf & Härtel. In return he asks for several of the publishers' books: the newspaper the Leipziger Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung as well as the complete works of Goethe and Schiller. (After his death there were indeed complete editions of Schiller and Goethe amongst Beethoven's books.)
Furthermore Beethoven asks for author's copies of his Cello Sonata op. 69, pointing out that he would like to have six author's copies of each of his works. He emphasizes that he will not sell these copies but needs to give them to "poor musicians".
