Ludwig van Beethoven, Quittung für die Fürstlich Kinskysche Hauptkasse in Prag, Wien, 1. April 1821, Autograph

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Sammlung H. C. Bodmer, HCB Br 167

Receipt for payment of the annuity, which Beethoven drew from the Prince Kinsky's finance office every six months. Aside from his signature, a receipt also had to contain proof that he was still alive. This was usually undertaken by a priest's office (acting in an official capacity) and assured the prince's finance office that the bearer was still alive and therefore entitled to withdraw the money.
