Dances for the Pension society of Viennese artists
Beethoven composed the Twelve German Dances WoO 8 free of charge for the Ball of the "Pension society of Viennese artists" on 22 November 1795, together with the Twelve Minuets WoO 7. This fragment with sketches for seven of the twelve dances is from a relatively early phase of the composition. Most of the motives in the sketches show only slight similarities with those in the end version. (J.R.)
