Nice to know
Marie Bigot, born Kiene, was an important pianist in Beethoven's lifetime. She moved to Vienna in 1804 where she and her husband, a librarian of Count Rasumowsky, made Beethoven's acquaintance. Several sources mention Marie Bigot's excellent performance of works by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
The pianist proved especially relevant for Beethoven's music in 1806 when she played his piano sonata "Appassionata" op. 57 in F minor - then still unpublished - at sight on a concert. One year later, the composer gave her the handwritten sheet that served as template for the publication of the sonata.(S.B.)
