Nice to know
Caroline Unger was one of the most excellent alto singers of the 19th century. Between 1819 and 1825 she performed at the Vienna Kärtnertor-Theater. Together with soprano singer Henriette Sontag she visited Ludwig van Beethoven in September 1822 and from then on remained in a rather close contact with the composer. Several entries in Beethoven's conversation booklets were made by Caroline. She and Henriette Sontag participated in Beethoven's great performance at the Kärtnertor-Theater on May 7th, 1824, when the composer's Ninth Symphony in D minor, op. 125, was performed for the first time along with parts of the Missa Solemnis, op. 123. The singers' outstanding performance contributed to the concert's success.(S.B.)
