To which book does this leaf belong?
This single leaf contains unidentified sketches; those on the front are for piano and on the reverse probably for a piano trio, as Beethoven's notes "Cembalo" ("harpsichord") and "Violoncello" show. The leaf was presumably not always a single leaf but was part of a book: on the left-hand side stitch holes made at regular intervals are still visible, the last one is torn. However, we do not know to which book it belonged, whether it still exists and when it was used. (J.R.)
