Ludwig van Beethoven, Brief an Franz Gerhard Wegeler in Koblenz, Wien, 29. September 1816, Autograph

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Sammlung Wegeler, W 20

Beethoven writes a brief note to his friend Wegeler, as Simrock (the son of the publisher in Bonn) is passing through and can take it with him. He hopes that the engraving (portrait by Höfel after a drawing by Letronne, printed by Artaria in 1814, copy with a personal dedication by the composer, a permanent loan from the Julius-Wegeler family foundation to the Beethoven-Haus W25) as well as the Bohemian drinking glass (permanent loan from the Julius-Wegeler family foundation to the Beethoven-Haus) have arrived safely and promises to think of Wegeler on his next journey to Bohemia.

Beethoven briefly mentions that he is now also a father, however without a wife. Wegeler notes in the margin, "He is bringing up the children of his dead brother Kaspar" (Karl van Beethoven, 1806-1858).
