Nice to know
Beethoven asks his brother Johann for advice on business matters as well as support. He tells him that Peters in Leipzig is prepared to buy the Mass op. 123 for 1,000 florins C.M. Peters has also given him money for some smaller works (WoO 18, WoO 19, WoO 20, WoO 24, Lieder and Bagatelles) which Beethoven is not able to deliver at the moment as his copyist is busy with the mass.
So that Beethoven is not forced to immediately accept Peter's offer, he asks his brother for a further loan which he promises to repay shortly. He needs it for his stay in Baden where his doctor has ordered him to take the waters.
Beethoven then tells him about the conflict with the publisher Steiner, to whom he now owes 3,000 florins. The latter has now added interest to the sum (due to the long time the money has been owing), which Beethoven is in no position to be able to pay. Beethoven wants to offer Steiner op. 113 and 117 as settlement for the debt.
Finally he asks his brother to come and visit again so that he can give him detailed advice. He then tells him that he is planning to come to his brother's estate for a few weeks with his nephew Karl, probably in September. At the end the nephew Karl adds personal greetings.
