Nice to know
The letter accompanies one which had already been written but not yet been sent (BGA 1142). It mainly contains puns on the name "Stein" (stone), Nannette Streicher's maiden name. Beethoven says that his health is improving and hopes to see Frau Streicher again soon.
Beethoven had been friends with the Streichers, a family of piano makers, since the beginning of his time in Vienna. Many short notes and letters to Nannette Streicher have survived, in particular from the years 1817 and 1818. At this time Beethoven lived near the Streichers and Nannette helped him with household tasks and everyday matters.
