Nice to know
Beethoven turns to Simrock, his publisher in Bonn, and once again promises him a mass (op. 123). He also tells him that he has already finished a second mass. Beethoven is not sure which one to send to Simrock and asks him to be patient until after Easter. Beethoven had already promised Simrock op. 123 in 1820 - but in the end he sold it to Schott in 1824 (after he had negotiated with a great many other publishers). There was no other mass, neither was he working on one. He probably only said this to Simrock to distract him, a tactic Beethoven often used with publishers.
In addition Beethoven offers him the Overture op. 124, as well as op. 113 and op. 117. Should Simrock be interested, he also has some Lieder and bagatelles which he would be willing to sell.
