Nice to know

Beethoven thanks his doctor Dr. Braunhofer for his medical attention and promises to follow his instructions and to take the medicine Braunhofer has sent. Time and again Beethoven had serious problems with his health, apart from his hearing mainly ones with his digestion. During his lifetime he often changed doctors as they were often not able to help him further and Beethoven therefore considered them to be amateurs. Braunhofer treated Beethoven from spring 1825 onwards and appears to have held his own against his stubborn patient. At least Beethoven kept to the prescribed diet and abstained from alcohol and coffee as the doctor had suggested.
