Ferdinand Ries, Brief an Franz Gerhard Wegeler in Koblenz, Düren, 14. März 1827, Autograph

Ries presents the finished entries of his opera "The robber's bride" op. 156 based on the libretto by Johann Joseph Reiff. He says, his wife who usually prefers operas by Mozart and Beethoven was very impressed with it. "Meine Frau die ... allen Operen die Mozartschen und Beethovishe vorzieht - behauptet sie sey ganz entzückt davon." Ries himself is quite content with his work but says he wants to adapt a few libretto scenes. In addition the libretto's prose parts are to be converted into verses and the whole text be shortened. Ries asks Wegeler with whom he plans to speak at the end of the month for consultation purposes for further advice. (FG)
