Nice to know
Soprano singer Amalie Sebald lived in Berlin. As a child she may have listened to Beethoven playing the piano when the composer gave a public performance in Berlin in 1796. She certainly met Beethoven about 15 years later in Teplitz (Bohemia). A close relationship quickly developed and Amalie and Beethoven saw each other quite often. The composer soon liked Amalie as several letters, which he sent her, show. The singer later owned various souvenirs, among them a curl of Beethoven that she had cut off herself. However, their friendship gradually waned and in 1815 Amalie married a lawyer, the later legal counsellor Krause.(S.B.)
