Nice to know

Ries has received an award and a precious ring from Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III in exchange for the dedication of his sixth symphony op. 146. During the Christmas concerts Ries represented Frankfurt opera director Karl Ferdinand Wilhelm Guhr. Two ensemble pieces (a trio and the robber's song for four singing voices) from his incomplete opera "The robber's bride" were met with great success. The first performance of the opera is to take place in Frankfurt as well. Ries discussed Wegeler's changes with Döring and informs Wegeler of the result, saying that several of his suggestions have already been accepted: "Mehrere Ihrer Bemerkungen sind schon eingestanden. 1. Carlo wird in der Sprache etwas gehoben. 2. Der 2te Akt in zwey Theile." Laura's romance of which Ries gives the second verse, will be adapted according to Döring's ideas. (FG)
