Nice to know
Already in 1818 did Beethoven ask his former music student Ferdinand Ries, who lived in London since 1812, to look for a London publishing house for his Hammerklavier Sonata. In January 1819 he sent Ries a copy of the sonata. In March he also sent him a list of errors with around 100 corrections. To justify the errors, Beethoven explained that the copy had been done in great rush and not by his usual copyist. The London edition of the Hammerklavier Sonata published by The Regent's Harmonic Institution in December 1819 takes these corrections into account. (J.R.)
