Another identified sketch leaf from Petter

The leaf shown here is from the so-called Petter Sketchbook. One of its previous owners, Gustav Adolf Petter, removed several single leaves from the bound sketchbook in which Beethoven had predominantly made sketches for the Seventh and Eighth Symphonies. Aside from the sketchbook itself which still comprises 74 of the original 80 leaves, the Beethoven-Haus owns several of the leaves removed at a later stage. If the sketchbook were reconstructed, the one shown here would be between leaves 22 and 23. This also corresponds with the chronology of the sketches on the leaf, which are for the first and second movements of the Seventh Symphony. (J.R.)
