Josephine Deym, Brief an Ludwig van Beethoven, Wien, Frühjahr 1805 oder 1806, Autograph, Konzept

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Sammlung H. C. Bodmer, HCB BBr 84g

Nice to know

Already in 1799 Beethoven became acquainted with Josephine Deym and fell in love with her in summer 1804. Although she has long been one of the candidates for the "immortal beloved", her behaviour towards Beethoven is not as obvious as his towards her. Their correspondence at least points to their intimate friendship. From 1806 onwards their relationship became increasingly shadowed by jealousy and reproaches on both sides. Josephine's draft of a letter contains reproaches towards Beethoven, as he did trust the strength of her character.
