Nice to know

His whole life long Beethoven was on the lookout for suitable operatic material. He also negotiated with the writer Heinrich Joseph von Collin concerning his libretto "Bradmante" (he had already written an overture for the latter's tragedy "Coriolan").

Beethoven asks the writer to wait before he allocates the libretto so that he can find the time to take a closer look at it after his academy. As we know nothing came of this opera project. In the end Johann Friedrich Reichardt set Collin's Bradmante to music.
