Ludwig van Beethoven, Billet an Gräfin Marie Erdödy(?) in Hernals(?), Wien, vielleicht Juni/Juli 1810, Autograph

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Sammlung H. C. Bodmer, HCB Br 117

Beethoven apologizes, saying that it was merely his obligations in Schönbrunn (he taught Archduke Rudolph music theory there) which had prevented him from visiting the day before. He hopes that his affection will be returned and assures her "that you are so dear and valuable to me that there can hardly be a higher plain than this". Countess Anna Maria Erdödy is one of the candidates for Beethoven's Immortal Beloved.
