Anton Halm (1789-1872) - Fotografie einer Reproduktion nach einer anonymen Aufnahme des 19. Jahrhunderts

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, NE 81, Band IV, Nr. 718

Nice to know

The composer, pianist and teacher Anton Halm had resided in Vienna since 1815. Ludwig van Beethoven thought highly of him and they were in close contact. In 1816, Beethoven dedicated his Piano Sonata in C Minor op. 15 to him. In April 1826, being commissioned by Beethoven, he arranged his "Große Fuge für Streichquartett" ("Great Fugue for String Quartet") in B Major op. 133 for piano for four hands. But Beethoven was not happy with the arrangement because of the frequently crossing voices, so he wrote his own piano version of the "Großen Fuge" ("Great Fugue") op. 134.(S.B.)
