When Wellington's Victory, op. 91, turned out to be a huge success, Beethoven was advised to dedicate the composition to the Price Regent of England. He then sent a score to England, inquiring if he was allowed to dedicate the printed edition to the Prince Regent. He had not received an answer when it was reported to him that the composition was being quite celebrated in England. Soon, Beethoven learnt about an unauthorised piano score that had already been published in England. However, this information later proved wrong.
In his letter to Prince Rasumowsky Beethoven is asking the prince for help so he might get reimbursed at least partially for his expenses. (J.R.)
