Sketch for an unfinished work
On this fragment you can see a score sketch by Beethoven from the year 1817 with the theme of a fugue for a string quintet in D minor. The string quintet was never finished and has only survived as a fragment. Beethoven sketched the entries of the theme in both violin parts and the second viola part. The reverse of the leaf remained empty. (J.R.)
