Nice to know
Beethoven asks his copyist Maschek to pay careful attention with his copy of the Ninth Symphony op. 125 that bars and groups of notes inserted later are added to the copy in the right place and that the context is preserved. He also asks him to write more carefully, because "if the rest of the symphony is written like the first allegro, the whole score will be useless". In addition he asks him for the not yet corrected parts so that he can proofread them, as well as for the opening and closing leaves (to prevent misuse copyists were never given a complete model, the outer sheets were always copied separately).
Maschek's query as to whether he can work at home instead of in Beethoven's apartment is turned down by the composer.
