Ludwig van Beethoven, Brief an den Gerichtsadvokaten Joseph Uibel, Wien, 11. Februar 1823, Autograph

Beethoven-Haus Bonn, Sammlung H. C. Bodmer, HCB BBr 76

Beethoven sends confirmation to the lawyer Joseph Uibel that he will pay his tailor's (Joseph Lind) still open bill the following day without delay; it is therefore not necessary to take legal action. Although the tailor is most likely in the right (the formulation suggests that the demand was made a while back, probably years ago), Beethoven does not refrain from accusing him of underhand motives, describing himself as being an innocent victim.
