The sculptor Caspar von Zumbusch writes about a plaster of Paris copy of Beethoven's head which he had first seen in the 1870s in an anatomical collection owned by Hofrat von Langen, and also of Beethoven's death mask at the Munich "plaster former" Biehl. He is not sure of the exact date but he had already designed his statue of Beethoven at that time. He had apparently been asked for details of Beethoven's masks.
