Nice to know

Moscheles thanks Schindler for sending Beethoven "relics", autograph scores by the composer which he had asked Schindler to send as mementos. Schindler had sent him a sheet from the Ninth Symphony and sketch leaves. He has also received a portrait of Beethoven as requested, although he notices that it differs from one described by Schindler, "so I do not have the one which you said was better".

Moscheles also turns to the tiresome subject of the money which the London Philharmonic Society had given to Beethoven. Shortly before the composer's death, the Society had sent him a larger sum of money to alleviate his financial need. However, after his death the sum was found untouched. Following this the Society had asked for the sum to be returned, although this proved to be rather complicated. Moscheles tells him of the current state of affairs as far as London is concerned and asks him to inform Sebastian Rau in Vienna, who acted on behalf of the Philharmonic Society in the matter.

In the second part of the letter Moscheles turns to the London music and concert scene, and talks about his own plans and new compositions. He mentions an article about Beethoven in the Musical Quarterly Review of June 1827, in which Schindler is also mentioned. Finally he sends greetings to friends and acquaintances.
